Description: Boot Scootin' Toe-Tapping Country Music for Children and their Families
Biography: Although some children are told they were “delivered by the stork,” Kimber Breaux claims her parents insisted she was tossed off a Shetland pony into a hay field. Growing up in Beaumont, Texas she says she didn’t doubt that story as it would explain her upside-down approach to the world. She thinks and often speaks in rhyme. She says she can’t help it, it just happens every time.
Translating her interest in rhymes into music began in junior high school when she formed a singing group that performed tunes by country greats including Hank Williams George Jones, Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings, and others. Her infatuation with country culture continued at Texas A&M University where she majored in Agriculture. But the performing bug kept stinging her.
After moving to Los Angeles, Kimber participated as a performer and choreographer in the top selling children’s video, "Dance Workout with Barbie." Performing for children and the birth of her nephew fostered her interest in writing music for kids. And, the idea for THE BUMMKINN BAND was born.
The band’s name is based on the singer’s own approach to life. “Most people think of a country bumpkin as someone who isn’t sophisticated or smart. But, I like to believe that it’s more about enjoying life and having a good time relishing the simple things that life has to offer.”
Her blend of toe-tapping, boot scootin’ music is a mixture of traditional country, folk and blues. Many of the songs will have instant recognition to listeners as they reflect the lessons in nursery rhymes. Kimber writes all of the songs herself and bases some on true experience. The idea for “SNOWMAN IN THE FREEZER” was a story told by her nephew who was trying to save the snow that rarely falls in South Central Texas. Other songs reflect her desire to help children believe in themselves and make the absolute most out of life.
A second album is already in the works and she is developing a TV series that will feature Joe Bear BummKinn, the character pictured on her CD.

As kid's music continues to gain in popularity, there is still a void for families who want to find tunes they can enjoy together. Country music-loving parents seeking something other than pop-flavored melodies for their kids can now find the answer in the first cd by The Bummkinn Band. Featuring the original songs and lilting voice of Texas-born singer/songwriter Kimber Breaux, the first album entitled "Starry Skies and Lullabies," includes boot scootin’ nursery rhyme story-songs as well as lullabies that will put a small cowpoke to sleep faster than a bee sippin ' on a flower.
Searching for inspiration for her music, Breaux chose traditional nursery rhymes as a background for many of her lyrics. “Nursery rhymes are familiar to parents and are easy for kids to remember, says Breaux. “I wanted to take the comfort of those rhymes and add a story that made sense for their lives today.”
The song, “Hey Mr. Dumpty” reflects on the mistakes that kids make with the understanding that they can also be a new beginning while “I Can Do Anything” uses the basis of Hey, Diddle Diddle to suggest that, if a cat can play a fiddle and a cow can jump over the moon, a kid can do anything he sets his mind to accomplish. Additional nursery songs such as “The Hope Song” based on the rhyme Jack, Be Nimble and Mary, Mary, Quite Contrary suggest that if you believe in yourself, your dreams can come true.
Additional vocals on the cd were provided by country artists including King Cotton, Keith Gattis, Bryson Jones, Bobby Joyner and Jonny Kaplan.
The cd, which is currently available at www.cdbaby.net, features an image of a character that Breaux has named Joe Bear BummKinn. Breaux says that he’s the “Buck Owens” of the stuffed animal world -- a teddy-sized fella with a grizzly-sized personality. The band is currently developing a tv show about Joe Bear, The BummKinn Band and life in Fish in A Tree County.
