Biography: Sister Perri
From Pebbles to Sister Perri:
A Transformation Through God
Born Perri Arnette McKissack in San Francisco, California and raised in Oakland, California, Perri was the youngest of four children. At an early age, Perri had a love of music and this God-given talent would soon catapult her to stardom and into a life that many dream of and only few experience.
From singing competitions to talent shows, every opportunity Perri had to sing she did. At the age of 14, she began singing back up for artists like Con Funk Shun, Sister Sledge and Bell Summers, just to name a few. Within seven years, Perri had her first record deal with MCA Records and was now known by her childhood nickname, Pebbles. Pebbles, her self-titled debut album, was released in 1987 and delivered such hits as “Girlfriend” and “Mercedes Boy.” Her sophomore release, Always, featuring “Love Makes Things Happen”, a duet with music superstar Babyface, topped the Pop and R&B charts. In 1995, her third album, Straight From My Heart, presented a more mature sound and landed her once again in the Top 40 of the R&B Charts.
With an established music career, a marriage to music mogul Antonio “LA” Reid and the drive and determination to always succeed, Pebbles was at the top of her game, both personally and professionally. The ability to take raw talent, develop and cultivate them into artists, songwriters, and producers was a gift that set her apart - a gift that would eventually change the face of the music industry with the introduction of TLC. Recording artists TLC would become the #1 selling female group of all time with over 33 million albums sold worldwide, 9 million singles sold, 4 Grammy awards, and an album, CrazySexyCool, to be one of the first albums certified diamond by RIAA standards.
However, amidst a string of successes, trouble would soon find her. Pebbles marriage was in demise, management and contract disputes with TLC would end their relationship, and a deep depression would paralyze this once vibrant woman, to one who could barely function in her daily life. Once the picture of happiness with a loving marriage and a thriving career, life changed and would never be the same.
In 1997, Perri had an experience with God that would transform her life. Although not raised in the church and having no knowledge of the Bible or religion or a sense of spirituality, God came to her. He delivered her from this life riddled with pain and uncertainty. God gave her the strength to live and because of this experience, she has given many the will and the strength to carry on in their own lives.
Perri is now affectionately known as Sister Perri. She is an ordained minister and through God, has founded the Women Of God Changing Lives Through Christ Ministries. Sister Perri is now using her God-given talent and new found peace to change as many lives as she can touch, whether through prayer, teaching or her music.
Her talent as a singer, songwriter and producer lead her in a new direction. Prophetic Flows Volumes I & II, to be released in early 2008, is her means of ministering to the soul and blessing the hearts of those who listen. Sister Perri has two children and currently resides in Atlanta, Georgia.
